ASSADABAD, Afghanistan, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) -- The Afghan Security forces killed 10 militants loyal to the Islamic State (IS) group after repulsing their attack outside Kunar's provincial capital Assadabad on Saturday, police said.
"A group of IS militants attacked some police security checkpoints outside Assadabad city this morning and security forces retaliated, forcing the attacking insurgents to flee after leaving 10 bodies behind," provincial police chief Juma Gul Hemat told reporters.
Mullah Zahir, a local commander of the IS group, was among those killed in the fighting, the official said.
Two police personnel also sustained injuries in the firefight, the police chief admitted.
No comment was immediately available from IS fighters.
