PUL-E-KHUMRI, Afghanistan, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- A policeman was killed and an Afghan journalist wounded in a shooting attack in northern province of Baghlan, the provincial police spokesman said Friday.

"The incident took place late Thursday when gunmen fired on Shir Mohammad Jahish, head of local TV Channel Tanweer, near his house in provincial capital Pul-e-Khumri city," Zabiullah Shuja told Xinhua.

The motive behind the attack remained unknown and the attackers fled the scene.

The killed police personnel was in charge of providing security for the targeted journalist, Shuja said, adding an investigation was launched into the shooting.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.

Reporters frequently come under attack in the militancy-hit country as 10 Afghan journalists and media workers have been killed in the first half of the year, according to Afghan Journalists Safety Committee, an independent media safety group.
