SRINAGAR, Indian-controlled Kashmir, Sept. 23 (Xinhua) -- Feeble earthquake shocks shook Indian-controlled Kashmir on Saturday, officials said.
According to India Meteorological Department, the earthquake with a magnitude of 4.5 occurred at 5:44 a.m. local time.
"The epicentre of today's earthquake was in Jammu and Kashmir region located at 34.0 degrees north latitude and 74.7 degrees east longitude," the information released by India Meteorological Department said. "The depth of the earthquake was 150 km."
According to officials, no reports of damage were received from any part of Indian-controlled Kashmir.
Geologists say Indian-controlled Kashmir is located in a zone of high seismic activity.
Srinagar falls in Seismic Zone-V and other parts of Indian-controlled Kashmir in Seismic Zone IV.
A high intensity quake with a magnitude of 7.4 with its epicentre in Muzaffarabad in Pakistan-controlled Kashmir shook the region on Oct. 8, 2005, causing large scale destruction and killing 80,000 people.
