BUENOS AIRES, Dec. 7 (Xinhua) -- Argentinos Juniors secured a berth in the second phase of the Diego Maradona Cup on Monday with a 1-0 home win over Estudiantes.
Elias Gomez scored in the eighth minute with a low 30-yard drive from a set piece and then the hosts defended resolutely to secure their third win of the campaign.
The result left Argentinos Juniors second in Group E with 10 points, two points behind leaders San Lorenzo.
Estudiantes were left in fourth place with two draws and four defeats from their six group matches.
In Monday's only other fixture, Aldosivi held San Lorenzo to a goalless draw at the latter's Nuevo Gasometro stadium in Buenos Aires. Despite the result, Aldosivi missed a berth in the next round while San Lorenzo maintained top spot in Group E. Enditem
