WINDHOEK, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- Cricket Namibia confirmed Namibia have qualified for the ICC Women's T20 World Cup Qualifiers 2019 to be held in Scotland from August 27 to September 7.

Head coach of the Namibia women's cricket team, Leonard Nhamburo, during a press statement on Thursday said this is the first time that the women's national team will participate.

"Namibia was named as a replacement for Zimbabwe, having finished second in the Africa regional qualifiers earlier this year," Nhamburo said.

Nhamburo said the team is up for the challenge and cannot wait to participate.

"It is game on for us. We will certainly do our best and make Namibia proud. We are looking forward to learning from other teams such as Scotland, USA, Papa New Guinea, Bangladesh, and Thailand. We are happy to go and be part of such an international event as it is everyone's goal to take part in the World Cup qualifiers," Nhamburo said.

The ICC T20 World Cup Qualifier is a 20 team international tournament run under the auspices of the International Cricket Council. The first edition was held in 2008, with only six teams. Participating teams were increased to eight for the 2010 tournament and to 16 for the 2012 and 2013 editions.
