TEHRAN, June 8 (Xinhua) -- Iran's Foreign Ministry announced on Saturday that fresh U.S. sanctions on its petrochemical sector contradict President Donald Trump's claims for negotiations to settle issues with Tehran.
The new sanctions, only few days after Trump's call for negotiations with Iran, proved that his claims for talks were "hollow," Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Abbas Mousavi said.
On Friday, U.S. Treasury Department announced that the United States had imposed economic sanctions on Iran's Persian Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company.
The sanctions are "violations" of international law and example of "economic terrorism," Mousavi said, urging the world's reaction to what he called Washington's "bullying" policies.
"All countries have a responsibility to react to the blatant violation of fundamental principles of international law and not let the achievements of the international community regarding multilateralism fade away by U.S. bullying and unilateral measures," he pointed out.
The United States has already imposed sanctions on Iran's oil and energy exports and has exerted embargo on Iran's international financial transactions.
Iran has called the U.S. withdrawal from the 2015 international nuclear deal as the "illegal" move and has vowed to resist the U.S. pressures.
