NICOSIA, Nov. 8 (Xinhua) -- Cyprus on Wednesday condemned the attempted missile strike on Riyadh, underlining the importance of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Saudi Arabia.
"Cyprus unequivocally condemns the attempted missile strike on Riyadh, last Saturday, which was a deliberate targeting of a civilian area, in clear violation of international law," a press release of the Cypriot Foreign Ministry said.
The missile was intercepted over Riyadh, according to Saudi Arabia.
Houthi-controlled Saba news agency also reported that Yemen's Shiite Houthi rebels fired a long-range missile on King Khalid International Airport in the Saudi capital Riyadh on Saturday night.
Saudi government admitted that a Houthi missile targeted the capital Riyadh.
According to Saudi-run Al-Arabiya satellite TV, the missile fell and exploded north of the airport, causing no casualties.
Saudi Arabia is leading a mostly Arab military coalition to fight Houthi rebels in Yemen since March 2015 in a bid to restore President Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi, who was ousted by the Houthis in September 2014.
The Houthis have taken over the control over much of Yemen's north, including the capital Sanaa since 2014.
