ALGIERS, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- Algerian counterterrorism forces on Monday arrested a female terrorist in an operation conducted in the northeast of the country.
According to a statement of Defense Ministry, the operation was part of the fight against terrorism, as an army unit in Jijel province arrested a 69-year-old female terrorist, nicknamed H. Sherifa.
She was the widow of a terrorist killed by army forces and she is a mother of two other terrorists who were also killed by army in a previous operation.
The statement pointed out that this female terrorist had joined terrorist groups in 1996.
Army troops have been conducting a wide-scale dragging operation in the dense woods of Laaouana, in Jijel, since Sunday, as two dangerous terrorists were killed and two others were arrested, while four women and a toddler were found hidden in a bunker.
Located in a region plagued by unprecedented security and political instability, Algeria faces ongoing terrorist threats.
