TOKYO, Sept. 8 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks retreated Friday morning as the yen's appreciation against the U.S. dollar dampened investor sentiment while the market mood remained cautious about current tensions on the Korean Peninsula.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 73.78 points, or 0.38 percent, from Thursday to 19,322.74.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, fell 0.37 points, or 0.02 percent, to 1,597.87.
Food, securities, and iron and steel-linked issues comprised those that declined the most by the morning break.
