TOKYO, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks edged higher on Tuesday morning as bargain hunting became more prevalent although gains were capped by the yen's appreciation against the U.S. dollar.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average edged up 13.48 points, or 0.07 percent, from Monday to 19,406.61.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, inched up 1.83 points, or 0.11 percent, to 1,597.02.
Iron and steel and nonferrous metal-related issues comprised those that made notable gains, while construction and food-linked issues comprised those that declined the most by the morning break.
