HO CHI MINH CITY, May 29 (Xinhua) -- A total of 2,035 fires and explosions broke out across Vietnam in the first five months of this year, killing 44 people and injuring 107 others.
Meanwhile, the fires and explosions left losses of some 910 billion Vietnamese dong (40.8 million U.S. dollars), the country's Fire Prevention and Fight Department said Monday.
In the same period last year, the Southeast Asian country suffered 1,552 fires and explosions, which left 34 people dead and 153 others injured, and caused losses of 723 billion Vietnamese dong (32.4 million U.S. dollars).
Over the past five months, 8,023 traffic accidents occurred in Vietnam, killing 3,496 people, severely injuring 1,972 people, and slightly hurting 4,616 others, said the country's Traffic Police Department.
Specifically, 68 railway accidents happened, claiming 59 lives and injuring 30 people.
