ALMATY, Feb. 4 (Xinhua) -- Italian skier Giulio Giovanni Bosca became the champion of the 28th World Winter Universiade in giant slalom here on Saturday.
Overcoming a heavy snowfall, Bosca clocked a time of two minutes 12.77 seconds to claim his first gold medal in Almaty.
Bosca finished ninth in men's combined Super-G on Wednesday, also took part in the combined slalom but didn't finish.
"I am feel amazing, the hill was great. I am happy to be participating in the competition and to have achieved such a result. I dedicate my victory to my skiing club and my coaches," Bosca told reporters.
Joel Mueller of Switzerland took the silver medal with 2:12.99 while his compatriot Cedric Noger third at 2:13.39.
92 athletes from 32 countries and regions participated in the tournament. Only 68 of them managed to successfully finish the second stage, including two Chinese skiers.
