Tokyo stocks open mixed on U.S. shares' advance, profit taking

TOKYO, Oct. 30 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened mixed on Monday as buying following Wall Street's advance at the end of last weak was offset by investors looking to lock in gains following shares here rising on corporate earnings and the yen's retreat.

As of 9:15 a.m. local time, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 40.10 points, or 0.18 percent, from Friday to 22,048.55.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, dropped 0.81 point, or 0.05 percent, to 1,770.24.

Pulp and paper, and mining issues comprised those that gained the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell, whereas food and bank issues led those that declined.
