JAKARTA, Oct. 20 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia has provided an early warning system to the people in the areas which could not be reached by sound of siren, should Mount Agung volcano in Bali erupt, an officer said on Friday.

The 3,031-meter active Mount Agung volcano in Karang Asem district has been at its highest alert level since Sept. 22.

The early warning system is in the form of a mobile phone app that will give a warning in the form of sound of siren if the eruption occurs, Inspector General Mochammad Iriawan, assistant for the operation of the national police, said.

The app is provided by the country's national police, he said.

"When eruption occurs, evacuation will be easily undertaken because the people immediately know it," he was quoted by Antara news wire as saying in Bali island.

People have to conduct online registration for the app, he added.

Rising seismic activity of the volcano has forced 146,769 people to flee the Mount Agung dangerous zone, but many of them have allegedly returned home as data recorded nine days later, Oct. 15, showing that the figure decreased to 139,199, according to the national disaster management agency.

A total of 1,100 people were killed in the latest eruption of Mount Agung in 1963.
