KABUL, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) -- Afghan security forces repelled an attack of Islamic States (IS) militants in mountainous eastern Kunar province on Saturday night, killing eight IS fighters and injuring four others, Afghan Interior Ministry said Sunday.
"A group of IS militants attacked several security checkpoints in Shagi area of Kunar's provincial capital Asadabad last night," the ministry said in a statement, adding that security forces also found and seized weapons and ammunition after the clash.
During the clashes, two policemen were also wounded but no civilian was affected, the statement noted.
The province with Asadabad as its capital, 185 km east of Afghan capital Kabul, is among the provinces where IS fighters are active.
