Albania heightens security for qualifier soccer match with Italy

TIRANA, Oct. 8 (Xinhua) -- Albanian police unveiled late Sunday the security measures taken to guarantee a football match between Albania and Italy to be played in the northern city of Shkodra on Monday evening.

"State police is fully engaged to guarantee public order and security during and after Albania's World Cup 2018 qualifier against Italy," Albanian police said in a statement.

The action plan presented by the state police is aimed at maintaining public order, preventing and hitting criminal activity, capturing the perpetrators of various criminal offenses and holding them to account, conducting physical checks on all persons equipped with tickets before entering the stadium to refuse the entry into the stadiums of various materials deemed illegal, official said.

According to police, the action plan will also involve supervising and managing the road traffic on the axes of the city of Shkodra, Tirana -- Shkodra and return, escorting and securing the high level personalities, the national football teams of Italy and Albania, the staff and the respective fans as well as tightened security near the offices and residences of diplomatic missions.

Meanwhile, police informed the citizens that some inner streets of the city of Shkodra will be blocked.

Albanian police expects around 1,200 fans to come from Italy to watch the qualifying match in Shkodra.
