NEW DELHI, Oct. 6 (Xinhua) -- A jailed top woman politician of the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu's ruling AIADMK party was Friday granted parole to visit her ailing husband.
"V.K. Sasikala has been released on parole for five days from Bengaluru Central Prison in the neighboring state of Karnataka to go to Tamil Nadu capital Chennai to meet her husband who had a liver transplant at a hospital there," a senior government official said.
Sasikala, the closest aide of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa, has been in jail in Karnataka since February when India's Supreme Court jailed her for four years for graft. She had installed herself as AIADMK chief soon after Jayalalithaa's death in December last year.
The 60-year-old politician, who was recently evicted as AIADMK chief by two rival factions of the party, was earlier this week denied parole by the jail authorities in Karnataka.
"But now her parole comes with riders - she cannot meet with anyone in Chennai and has to live at the home of one of her relative. She also can't take part in any political activity and give statements to the media," said the official.
