NEW DELHI, Oct. 6 (Xinhua) -- India's southern state of Andhra Pradesh is planning to allot five additional marks to students who take part in the Clean India campaign.
The Clean India campaign is Prime Minister Narendra Modi's initiative to end open defecation in the country by 2019. Nearly half of India's 1.2 billion people have no access to toilets.
Officials said on Friday that the Swachh Andhra Corporation (SAC) has been asked to keep track of students of the ninth grade and above who take part in the mission to clean up the country.
"We want the students to help us identify the households without toilets and also encourage their parents to build toilets if they don't have one," Muralidhar Reddy, SAC head, told media.
SAC is the body to conduct the Clean India campaign in Andhra Pradesh.
Modi in 2014, soon after assuming office, launched the Clean India campaign. He also promised to build toilets in every school and every home with a toilet over five years.
