TRIPOLI, Oct. 3 (Xinhua) -- UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) on Monday called on the Libyan authorities to arrest those responsible for the assassination of two social reconciliation committee members in western Libya.
"UNSMIL calls on authorities to bring to justice those responsible for the reported assassination of four men, including two from Bani Walid supporting the reconciliation between Mashashya and Zintan," the mission said.
The mission stressed that "resorting to violence must not hamper reconciliation efforts and an inclusive political solution."
Unidentified gunmen last Friday assassinated four members of a social reconciliation delegation near the town of Mezda, 140 km southeast of Tripoli. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the assassination.
The crime was widely condemned in Libya by the Higher Council of State, the UN-backed unity government, the eastern-based House of Representatives and the armed forces.
