NEW DELHI, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- A local leader belonging to India's ruling Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) in northern state of Haryana was accused of stopping an ambulance, causing death of a patient inside it, police said Monday.

The BJP councillor Darshan Nagpal, according to the victim's family, stopped an ambulance after it allegedly hit his car on Saturday evening at a traffic intersection.

Nagpal's car reportedly chased the ambulance and blocked it for about half an hour in Fatehabad demanding compensation for damages from the ambulance driver.

"When the ambulance finally made it to the hospital, the doctors declared 42-year-old patient Naveen Soni as brought dead," the victim's family in its complaint said. "The doctor told us if only you had come 15 minutes earlier, we could have saved him."

Nagpal has denied the allegations.

A senior police officer said they have initiated investigations into the complaint.

This is the second criminal complaint filed against the BJP leaders in the state in the past three days.

In a separate case son of Haryana BJP chief Subhash Barala was accused of stalking a woman and trying to kidnap her in Chandigarh city late on Friday night.

The young woman in a widely-shared Facebook post described in chilling details how men in a white SUV chased her down the streets of Chandigarh on Friday night.

"The boy came out of the safari and tried to open my door, banged my window... To me it was very clear that these boys intended to abduct me even tried to open the door," the young women wrote.

Sexual attacks on women and girls in India put a question mark on their safety and efficiency of police force in the country.

In Dec. 2012 a fatal gang-rape of a medical student in New Delhi brought spotlight on crimes against women in India.

The incident saw huge protests and resulted in new anti-rape laws in the country. However, brutal sexual attacks against women continue to be reported across India.
