NEW DELHI, July 4 (Xinhua) -- Massive public outrage erupted in India over the transfer of an "honest" woman police officer, barely a week after she stood up to a group of ruling party members and arrested some of them in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.

A video went viral of the Deputy Superintendent of Police Shrestha Thakur arguing with workers of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) after she penalized some of them for violating traffic rules in Bulandshahr district.

In the video, the woman officer can be seen angrily asking the agitated group of BJP members to get a written declaration from Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath that police have no power to check vehicles.

But after her transfer to a place close to the state's border with Nepal, many Indians took to social media to criticize the Uttar Pradesh government, while some even wished her good luck in her new posting.

"Perfect example for being honest in your job," tweeted a man who identifies himself as just Philip Prem.

However, Thakur has said on Facebook that she's not sure if the new posting was a punishment for doing her job or a reward for her good work, but claimed she has decided to treat the transfer positively.

"That's d spirit ... good luck," wrote Raj Mishra, another Indian, on her Facebook comment.
