NEW DELHI, May 24 (Xinhua) -- Indian President Pranab Mukherjee Wednesday wrote to British Queen Elizabeth II, condemning the terror attack in Manchester that killed 22 people and injured around 59 and reiterating the need for intensifying the global fight against terrorism.

"We stand in solidarity with the people and the Government of the United Kingdom (UK) in this difficult hour. This is not an attack just against the UK and its people; it is an attack against the humanity and the values that we all live for," President Mukherjee said in his written message.

Calling for intensifying the global fight against terrorism, Mukherjee wrote: "India is fully committed to working with the UK and the international community in defeating these evil forces."

Along with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Indian president had Tuesday also condemned the terror attack at a pop concert by U.S. star Ariana Grande at Manchester Arena late Monday night in a series of tweets.

President Mukherjee had said that he was shocked to hear of the Manchester blast and conveyed condolences to the families of the deceased and prayers for the injured. "India stands by government and people of UK in this hour of distress," he tweeted.

British police have identified the bomber as 22-year-old Salman Abedi, while the Islamic State militant group has claimed responsibility for the terror attack.
