Several injured as building collapses in Sri Lanka's capital

COLOMBO, May 18 (Xinhua) -- At least nine people were injured and several trapped when a five storeyed building collapsed in Sri Lanka's capital Colombo on Thursday, police said.

The building, located in Wellawatta, was under construction.

The injured were sent to the Kalubowila and Colombo National Hospitals by rescue teams who rushed to the scene immediately after the tragedy.

Police said search operations were continuing to save any people trapped underneath the rubble.
