SINGAPORE, March 13 (Xinhua) -- Singapore will release a new set of stamps to commemorate 50 years of national service (NS), said Singapore Post (SingPost) in a press release on Monday.
The stamps will feature Singapore's founding Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew, as well as the late former Minister for Defense Goh Keng Swee, both key figures in the introduction of National Service.
According to SingPost, the set also includes the enlistment of the first batches of full-time NSmen into the Singapore Armed Forces, the Singapore Police Force, and the Singapore Civil Defense Force, as well as the introduction of the Open Mobilization System.
A special Collecter's Sheet is also available which comprises two stamps featuring portraits of Lee and Goh, against a backdrop with an excerpt of Lee's speech at the sending-off dinner for the initial batch of full-time NSmen on Aug. 29 1967.
