RIO DE JANEIRO, Feb. 21 (Xinhua) -- The Brazilian government said Friday it welcomes the U.S. decision to lift ban on imports of Brazil's fresh beef.

The announcement was made by Brazilian Agriculture Minister Tereza Cristina Dias, who said the U.S. move represents the acknowledgement of the quality of the Brazilian meat.

Exports of Brazilian fresh beef to the United States were first allowed in 2016 and suspended in 2017, after U.S. authorities found in the meat abscesses caused by foot-and-mouth disease vaccine. Since then, the Brazilian government has been working for the lift of the suspension.

The reopening of the North American market is "the result of an extensive process of dialogue, exchange of information and technical inspections," Brazil's Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
