BUENOS AIRES, Nov. 3 (Xinhua) -- Carlos Tevez scored with a spectacular overhead kick as Boca Juniors romped to a 5-1 home victory over Arsenal Sarandi in the Argentine Superliga on Sunday.
Making a rare start, the former Argentina international forward set the hosts on their way by latching onto Junior Alonso's looping header with a scissor-kick volley that left goalkeeper Maxi Gagliardo with no chance.
It was just the third goal for Tevez in 10 league appearances this season, most of which have been as a substitute.
Ramon Abila added another goal before halftime for Boca before Colombian Frank Fabra struck twice and Mauro Zarate once in the second half. Gaston Alvarez pegged a late goal back for the visitors.
The result at La Bombonera lifted Boca to second in the 24-team standings, equal on points with leaders River Plate, who won 2-1 at Aldosivi on Saturday. Arsenal dropped to 11th, seven points off the pace.
In Cordoba, Talleres ended a four-game losing streak with a 1-0 home win over Newell's Old Boys, courtesy of a second-half goal from Martin Payero.
In other Superliga fixtures on Sunday, Union drew 3-3 at Banfield and reigning champions Racing held hosts Patronato to a 1-1 draw.
