GHAZNI, Afghanistan, Sept. 22 (Xinhua) -- Afghan government forces after days of fierce fighting have recaptured Jaghatu district in eastern Ghazni province, forcing militants to flee, said an army statement released here Sunday.

According to the statement, the security forces took the full control of Jaghatu district on Saturday and cleanup operation has been continuing to ensure lasting peace there.

Taliban militants who captured Jaghatu district almost two years ago are yet to make comment on the situation.

The statement said nothing about the casualties.

Afghan forces launched massive operations in parts of the relatively troubled Ghazni province weeks ago and according to the statement have secured several villages, forcing militants to flee.

The security forces have recaptured seven districts including three in northern Badakhshan province over the past 10 days, according to security officials.
