WASHINGTON, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) -- U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday fired off a volley of tweets attacking the New York Times, after the newspaper issued a correction to a story about Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh's alleged sexual misconduct.

In one of the tweets, Trump called for "the Resignation of everybody at The New York Times involved in" the Kavanaugh story.

The newspaper reported Saturday that a former classmate of Kavanaugh's witnessed the now justice sexually assaulted a woman at a dorm party at Yale University in the 1980s.

However, according to the correction the newspaper issued Monday, the original story was adapted from a forthcoming book, which contains contents claiming that the woman involved "declined to be interviewed and friends say that she does not recall the incident."

Trump has long been accusing U.S. media of running negative stories about him, which critics say sabotages independence of the press. The New York Times is one of the president's frequent targets.
