KABUL, Sept. 12 (Xinhua) -- Four Afghan soldiers were killed and three others wounded in a suicide car bomb explosion outside Afghan army special forces' base in southwestern Kabul on Thursday, police said.

"At around 12:50 p.m. local time, a suicide bomber detonated a vehicle in front of the gate of Afghan National Army Special Operations Corps in Rish Khor locality of Chahar Asyab district. The blast resulted in four soldiers killed and three injured," the police said in a statement.

The blast caused a plume of gray smoke to rise above the scene.

Taliban militant group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

The explosion was the latest in a string of bombings that have targeted dozens of military and security compounds across the country.

On Aug. 7, 14 people were killed and 180 others wounded after a Taliban truck bombing struck a police station in western Kabul.
