BEIJING, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- A Peking Opera performance that features singing but without traditional makeup, acting or costumes will be staged at the National Center for the Performing Arts in Beijing on Aug. 31 and Sept. 1.

This performance style, called "Qingyin table," was prevalent a century ago among Peking Opera artists and will be reproduced by Wang Peiyu, a well-known Peking Opera artist.

During the performance, Wang and a band whose members are all clad in long gowns will present the charm of the vocal part of the Peking Opera with simple props including a table, a chair and a teapot.

Audiences will hear Wang's original aspiration of establishing the Peking Opera Qingyin Club, the development of the elder-bearded male role "Lao Sheng" and the common systematic tunes of the Peking Opera.

Featuring theater-goers' long-anticipated classic arias such as "The Chinese Orphan," "Capturing and Releasing Cao Cao" and "Qin Qiong Sells His Horse," the performance will be integrated with new multimedia elements, opening a window for audiences to the art of Peking Opera.
