BEIJING, July 17 (Xinhua) -- China on Wednesday urged the city government and mayor of Prague to stop undermining China-Czech relations.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang made the remarks at a news briefing when asked to confirm reports that China has taken countermeasures against the anti-China actions of the Prague City Council and mayor.

Saying the Prague government and mayor have for some time behaved very badly on issues involving China's national sovereignty and core interests, including issues related to Taiwan and Tibet, Geng stressed their moves have seriously hurt the feelings of the Chinese people and undermined the ties between the two countries, especially the good atmosphere of local exchanges and cooperation.

"This is the fundamental reason why related parties and individuals of Prague are not welcomed by Chinese people," Geng said.

He urged the Prague municipal authorities and the involved politicians to change their mind and stop doing harm to the overall China-Czech relations.

"Otherwise they will eventually damage their own interests," the spokesperson said.
