TEHRAN, July 9 (Xinhua) -- At least three forces of Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) were killed in an ambush by "terrorists" in the northwestern Piranshahr city on Tuesday, Tasnim news agency reported.

"The terrorists opened fire at the IRGC vehicle at the entrance of Piranshahr city," IRGC commander in Urmia city, Habib Shahsavari, told Tasnim.

More details about the incident will be disclosed later, Shahsavari said.

Western and northwestern region of Iran has been the scene of bloody armed clashes between the Iranian security forces and the Kurdish rebels over the past years.
