ISLAMABAD, June 17 (Xinhua) -- Most parts of Pakistan continued to experience an intense wave of heat on Monday, with the mercury likely to hit maximum 49 degrees centigrade in the country’s southwestern Turbat district during the next 12 hours, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

“Mainly hot and dry weather is expected in most parts of the country. However, dust-thundershower and rain with gusty winds are expected at isolated places,” predicted officials from the PMD.

Weather remained hot and dry in most parts of the country during the past 24 hours, with the maximum temperature recorded at 47 degrees centigrade in Turbat.

With the soaring temperature, medical experts in the country warned citizens against heat and sun stroke, advising them to adopt preventive measures, particularly those undertaking outdoor activities.

People, especially children, elderly, sick, should avoid going out from their homes and offices, senior medical practitioner Khalid Hussain at Fauji Foundation Hospital Lahore told Xinhua, adding that measures such as drinking plenty of water and wearing appropriate light-colored clothes should be adopted to combat prevailing hot weather.

Meanwhile, the weather department has advised farmers to regularly irrigate their kharif crops by keeping in view of the ongoing extremely hot weather.
