STOCKHOLM, June 10 (Xinhua) -- Swedish police on Monday shot and wounded a man who "appeared threatening" at Malmo central station, in southern Sweden, local media reported.

Malmo police have confirmed that the national bomb squad has detonated a suspected bomb, according to Swedish news DN.

"A situation arose where the police were forced to fire shots against the man," Evelina Olsson, a police spokesperson, was quoted as saying.

The man has been taken to hospital by ambulance. There is no information yet on how seriously the man was injured.

Malmo central station has now been evacuated, with the public forbidden from entering and the surrounding area heavily guarded by armed police.

"It is part of the investigation work. This is very central in the city," Olsson told DN.
