BUCHAREST, May 23 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Ambassador to Romania Jiang Yu on Thursday expressed her belief that the Chinese Season will enrich the Sibiu International Theatre Festival and give the audience something completely new.

Jiang made the remarks at the press conference here to promote the 26th Sibiu International Theatre Festival, together with ambassadors and representatives from France, Germany, Israel, Japan, Britain and the United States, at the invitation of the festival organizer Constantin Chiriac.

The Chinese ambassador said that the Embassy of China in Romania, in collaboration with Sibiu International Theatre Festival, will present a colorful Chinese Season during the Festival this year to mark the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Romania.

According to her, the Chinese Season includes two parts: performances and a lantern show. The performances will include traditional Sichuan Opera, creative Peking Opera, and a modern dance with Chinese classical style.

"It is worth mentioning that the largest Chinese Lantern Show in Central and Eastern Europe will take place at Astra Museum in Sibiu, the largest outdoor museum in Romania," said Jiang, adding that at the opening ceremony of Lantern Show on June 23, a delegation of chefs from China will show their culinary skills and present gourmet Chinese food.

Jiang expressed her gratitude to Chiriac, chairman of the festival and to his team for their extraordinary contribution in promoting Sino-Romanian cultural exchanges and cooperation.

Chiriac, also general manager of the national theatre in Sibiu, spoke highly of the close cooperation between Romania and China in the field of culture and art in recent years.

He expressed his honour to have the Chinese art groups once again at the Sibiu Theatre Festival, providing audiences with a variety of Chinese drama art.

The festival is scheduled to take place from June 14 to 23, gathering some 3,300 artists from more than 70 countries and regions. The organizer expects over 70,000 visitors per day during the ten-day event.
