Flamengo eye move for Bayern Munich's Rafinha

RIO DE JANEIRO, May 14 (Xinhua) -- Departing Bayern Munich full-back Rafinha could join Flamengo this summer as the Rio de Janeiro giants seek to bolster their squad for the second half of the Brazilian Serie A season.

Two Flamengo officials are currently in Europe and will meet with Rafinha in the coming days to present a formal proposal, according to the Globo Esporte news portal.

Rafinha this week confirmed that he will leave Bayern Munich at the end of the season, joining stalwarts Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery in parting ways the Bundesliga club.

Media reports in Brazil have said that Rafinha and Flamengo tentatively agreed to a deal in January though it is understood the 33-year-old could be tempted by a proposal to join Portuguese side Benfica.

Rafinha has made 179 Bundesliga appearances for Bayern since joining the club from Genoa in 2011. He played another 153 matches in Germany's top flight for Schalke in the second half of the last decade.

According to press reports, Flamengo are also holding talks with Atletico Madrid and Brazil left-back Filipe Luis.

The five-time Brazilian Serie A champions are currently seventh in Brazil's 20-team Serie A standings after four rounds.
