TEHRAN, May 1 (Xinhua) -- A China Reading Corner was opened in the Iran National Library and Archives (INLA) on Wednesday to help strengthen the cultural exchanges between China and Iran.

The China Reading Corner consists of more than 1,000 books covering Chinese politics, economy, literature, history, culture and children, which are donated by a number of major Chinese publishers.

Speaking at the opening ceremony at INLA's headquarters in the Iranian capital city of Tehran, Chinese Ambassador to Iran Pang Sen said the opening of this corner demonstrates the deep friendship and close relations between China and Iran.

Pang described the China Reading Corner as "a major result of Tehran International Book Fair with China as guest of honor," which is being held from April 23 to May 4.

This project provides a sustainable stage for the cultural exchanges between the two countries in the future, he noted.

Meanwhile, INLA Director Ashraf Boroujerdi said the reading corner will serve as a window for Iranian readers to get to know fast-developing China.

With more cultural exchange in this way, the Chinese and Iranian people will further deepen their friendship and have better understandings of each other, Boroujerdi added.
