Iran's FM heads to Turkey for tripartite talks

TEHRAN, Oct. 29 (Xinhua) -- Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif left Tehran for Istanbul on Monday for a trilateral meeting with his Turkish and Azeri counterparts, Tasnim news agency reported.

Zarif will hold talks on the cooperation in the sphere of common interests at the sixth trilateral meeting of the foreign ministers of Iran, Turkey and the Republic of Azerbaijan.

During the five previous meetings, Iran, Turkey and Azerbaijan exchanged views on a broad range of topics including economy, transit, transportation, energy, customs, as well as political issues.

On Sunday, it was announced here that Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Mohammad Baqeri will also pay an official visit to Azerbaijan in near future to boost defense cooperation.

The expansion of ties in border areas and the latest developments in the region are also on the agenda of Baqeri's talks with his Azeri counterpart.
