Kenya, Ethiopia qualify for Africa Zone 5 Handball Challenge Trophy final

KAMPALA, May 18 (Xinhua) -- Kenya and Ethiopia on Friday stormed the finals of the youth category (U-20) at the on-going 2018 Africa Zone 5 International Handball Federation Challenge Cup.

The hosts Uganda fell 22-16 to arch-rivals Kenya in the first semifinal before Ethiopia defeated Somalia 34-20 in the other semifinal game all played at the Mandela National Stadium.

"I am happy that we have made it to the final and I have scored several goals that have got us to the final," Ethiopia's top scorer with 37 goals Efriem Demsse Abera told Xinhua after the game.

Ethiopia's other players Kalide Abedu and Biruk Temesgen have also scored 27 and 24 goals respectively since the tournament started.

In the Group B matches played in the junior category, (U-18) Uganda humbled Sudan 60-23, while Rwanda defeated Somalia 46-24.

Kenya will battle Rwanda, while Uganda take on Ethiopia in the semi-finals on Saturday.

The U-20 category final between Kenya and Ethiopia will also be played on Saturday. Enditem
