COLOGNE, Germany, Feb. 12 (Xinhua) -- The carnival parade on Rose Monday was held on Monday across the Rhine region covering Cologne, Dusseldorf, Mainz etc., which marked the climax of the week-long street festival.

During the so-called largest Rose Monday parade in Cologne, thousands of costumed revelers gathered together to celebrate the religious Christian holiday that falls before Ash Wednesday.

Bonbons, chocolate and bouquets were thrown in the air by over hundreds of participants in the carnival parade procession consisting of various floats, then fell down and were scrambled by revelers, most of whom loudly shouted "Kolle Alaaf" -- traditional catchword of carnival parade in Cologne.

During the massive parade which lasted about 3.5 hours, 300 tons of bonbons, 700,000 bars of chocolate and 300,000 bouquets were distributed to revelers, according the introduction released on the website of local government.

"Today only a few problems occurred amid the carnival parade on Rose Monday, which was partly drawn in the sunshine and mostly dry weather across the city center of Cologne," local government said in a statement.

According to local police, several people were injured in an accident involving a horse-drawn coach in the carnival parade, after the horse was frightened.
