WASHINGTON, Dec. 18 (Xinhua) -- U.S. senator John McCain said Monday that he was feeling "well" and anticipated to return to work after the Christmas holidays as he was recovering from brain cancer treatment.

"I'm feeling well & looking forward to returning to work after the holidays," he said on his Twitter.

McCain's office announced over the weekend that he was returning to his home state Arizona for "physical therapy and rehabilitation" as he continued to receive treatment for brain cancer.

The announcement quashed expectations that McCain would be able to cast a vote for the Republicans' tax code overhaul, which is expected to take place this week.

McCain, 81, was diagnosed with a brain tumor in July. After that, the six-term U.S. senator underwent surgery to remove a two-inch blood clot in his brain.
