ATHENS, Dec. 2 (Xinhua) -- Turkey President Tayyip Recep Erdogan will visit Greece on Dec. 7-8, the first by a Turkish head of state in 65 years, following an invitation by his Greek counterpart Prokopis Pavlopoulos, said a press statement from the Greek presidential office on Saturday.

Erdogan will meet with Pavlopoulos and Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, while he will also visit the northeast border province of Thrace, which hosts a large Muslim minority.

The two presidents are expected to discuss issues that affect bilateral relations, the refugee crisis, security in the wider region and European Union-Turkish ties, said the statement.

Closer economic cooperation will also be discussed and will focus on joint projects currently underway.
