Food poisoning fatalities in Vietnam nearly double in 11 months

HO CHI MINH CITY, Nov. 30 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam witnessed 102 food poisoning cases between January and November, which sickened 3,147 people and killed 22, its Preventive Health Department said Thursday.

In November alone, the country faced nine food poisoning cases which affected 295 local people, including two fatalities.

Vietnam saw 119 food poisoning cases which sickened 3,580 people and claimed 12 lives in the first 11 months of last year.

In the first 11 months of this year, the country spotted 163,700 dengue fever patients, including 30 fatalities, nearly 95,000 foot-and-mouth disease cases, 680 viral encephalitis sufferers, including 22 deaths, and 34 Zika patients.

Vietnam currently has 209,700 HIV carriers, of whom 90,300 have become AIDS patients, the department said. To date, some 93,600 people in the country have died of AIDS-related diseases.
