NEW YORK, Nov. 26 (Xinhua) -- A busy mall in the New York State was evacuated Sunday after two people suffered minor injuries when a gun was fired at the floor, police said.
A man discharged a single shot into the floor outside the American Eagle Outfitters store at the Galleria mall in Middletown, a city in the Hudson Valley region of the U.S. state of New York, local police chief Robert Hertman told a news conference Sunday evening.
It was unclear if the shot fired was accidental or intentional, Hertman said. Police are still searching for the man whose gun went off.
A 49-year-old woman and her 12-year-old son suffered minor injuries, possibly from bullet fragments hitting their legs, according to CBS New York.
Police responded to reports of gunfire around 3 p.m.(2000 GMT) and the entire mall was on lockdown by 5 p.m. (2200 GMT) Sunday.
A video posted on social media showed armed police in tactical gear running down a corridor of the mall while shoppers ran in the other direction.
