BEIRUT, Nov. 24 (Xinhua) -- Lebanese authorities are interrogating writer and actor Ziad Itani on suspicions that he broke the law by "communicating and collaborating" with Israelis, a statement by the State Security said on Friday.

Itani, born in 1975, was detained late Thursday based on "information he was communicating with Israelis and that after confronting Itani with evidence of contacting the Israeli enemy "he confessed and even revealed that he was involves in a scheme to assassinate two political prominent figures," the statement added.

It pointed that more details will be revealed later.

The actor, writer and comedian has shot to prominence in recent years because of a series of comedy plays on Lebanese capital Beirut, its customs and the transformations it has undergone in recent decades.
