HONG KONG, Nov. 22 (Xinhua) -- The government of Chinas Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) announced Wednesday a grant of 3.376 million Hong Kong dollars (about 0.43 million U.S. dollars) from the Disaster Relief Fund for flood victims in the Indian state of Assam.
The HKSAR government has accepted the advice of the Disaster Relief Fund Advisory Committee and approved from the fund a grant to Habitat for Humanity Hong Kong for providing relief to flood victims in Assam, the HKSAR government said in a press release.
The grant will be used to provide temporary shelter materials and tools as well as household items, a government spokesman said, adding that the committee hopes the grant will facilitate the provision of timely relief to the victims and help them restore their normal living.
The grant, together with those approved earlier, will take the accumulative value of grants for flood victims in India to 14.765 million Hong Kong dollars (about 1.89 million U.S. dollars).
To ensure that the money is used for the designated purposes, Habitat for Humanity Hong Kong will be asked to submit an evaluation report and an audited account on the use of the grant after the relief project has been completed," the spokesman said.
