HOUSTON, Nov. 16 (Xinhua) -- China-U.S. relationship will have a bright future if the two nations further enhance their cooperation in all aspects, former Chinese Vice Foreign Minister He Yafei said Thursday.
He made the remarks when delivering an address at the China Public Policy Center of the University of Texas at Austin.
The event, co-organized by the China Public Policy Center and the China-United States Exchange Foundation, was focused on the prospects of the bilateral relations after U.S. President Donald Trump's first state visit to China.
"The great achievement that had been made during the trip is the consensus between the two presidents that the only option for China and the United States in the future is cooperation," said He.
He believed that as two major powers, China and the United States bear special responsibilities for maintaining world peace and stability, and promoting global growth and prosperity.
He pointed out several areas where the two countries "should seriously consider" cooperating further in the future, particularly economic cooperation.
"We need to work together to make the economic cake much bigger," he noted.
The former diplomat also called on the two countries to "move from strategic ambiguity into strategic clarity," meaning to build a comprehensive partnership based on mutual trust and benefit.
