Hong Kong, EU hold annual dialogue to deepen ties

HONG KONG, Nov. 16 (Xinhua) -- An annual high-level dialogue meeting between the government of China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) and the European Union (EU) took place here Thursday to discuss a wide range of subjects and identify areas for further cooperation.

At the 11th annual Structured Dialogue meeting, both sides provided updates on the latest developments, including their respective initiatives on free trade agreements and investment agreements, and exchanged views on the prospect of bilateral negotiations on investment.

The HKSAR government briefed the EU delegation on its work in taking forward the Belt and Road Initiative and the developments in the financial services sector. The EU updated the HKSAR government on the economic recovery in Europe, the role of its Investment Plan for Europe in boosting investment and growth.

The EU appreciated the regular bilateral exchanges on intellectual property (IP) rights protection and enforcement over the past two years and would continue to explore further co-operation possibilities with Hong Kong in the IP field.

The two sides discussed issues including food safety, waste treatment and recycling, wildlife trafficking, academic exchange and tourism, and agreed to strengthen cooperation in these areas.
