TOKYO, Nov. 6 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks ended mixed Monday as buying in early trade following Wall Street's strong lead late last week was offset by profit taking following gains made on domestic firms' solid earnings.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average edged 9.23 points, or 0.04 percent higher, from Thursday to close the day at 22,548.35.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, shed 1.42 points, or 0.08 percent, lower at 1,792.66.

Marine transportation and wholesale issues comprised those that gained the most by the close of play, while nonferrous metal and bank-oriented stocks led those that declined.

Markets here were closed Friday for a national holiday.
