BOGOTA, Nov. 1 (Xinhua) -- The former Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), the largest guerrilla group in Colombia, said Wednesday that its ex-commander Rodrigo Londono will run for president in 2018.

In early September, the disarmed rebels officially entered the realm of politics, renaming itself as the Revolutionary Alternative Common Force, a party that preserves the group's acronym and objective of fighting for social justice.

At a press conference here, the FARC said Londono, also known by his nom de guerre "Timochenko," will run with Imelda Daza as his running mate.

Londono is currently in Cuba receiving medical treatment.

Daza is a member of Voces de Paz (Voices of Peace), a political movement created to follow up on the peace accords signed in 2016 between the Colombian government and the rebels, which brought five decades of fighting to an end.

Due to her activism and subsequent death threats, Daza spent 26 years in exile in Sweden.

"We will work towards a very different Colombia, capable of accepting citizen participation and coexisting with democracy," said Daza.

The FARC also unveiled its candidates for the Senate, including former rebel leaders Ivan Marquez and Pablo Catatumbo, and announced its candidates for the House of Representatives.

"Good people hope to end the corruption that is impoverishing the country. They also demand the reorientation of the economic model to recover productive capacity, dignify work and meet the most urgent needs of the population," said Marquez.
